My name's Jake Bourey, and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days.
According to a new study by researchers at the University of Nebraska, the Harvard School of Public Health, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, regular marijuana users are skinnier than those who have either never tried the drug, or don’t use it regularly. The study, which looked at 4,600 adults, found smaller waist circumferences in the 12 percent who identified themselves as regular weed smokers. On top of the skinny factor, researchers also found higher levels of “good cholesterol” (HDL) in those who smoke cannabis often.
Honestly, I only workout high, and I wouldn’t go to the gym nearly as much or as long if I didn’t smoke. Also, pretty much my favorite activity in the world during the summer is to ride my bike high listening to music for hours nonstop. I know way too many people who don’t smoke and assume all weed smokers like me are lazy, when in fact I’m more active than them and get better grades. If you can’t figure out how to be productive when high, then don’t smoke very much. Simple as that.

Median - Visionary (prod. by 9th Wonder)
Overall I’m not a huge fan of Median, but this particular song is fuckin’ phenomenal. The lyrics are beautifully profound and the instrumental is truly magnificent. 9th Wonder has a plethora of exceptionally soulful beats, but this is easily one of his best. Visionary is also one of my favorite songs to blaze to. It’s been on my “songs to smoke to” playlist longer than just about any other song on there.

Played 926 times.I hate dumbasses who argue “Weed should be illegal because all it does is make you lazy!” Oh, well I guess since all candy and cake does is make you fat and develop weight related health problems that can become life threatening, they should be very illegal.
Or maybe there’s something called self control and personal responsibility that when utilized allows you to be very productive and get good grades and maintain a solid 6 pack even when you regularly smoke and eat snacks.
Candy and cake doesn’t make you fat…eating too much and then choosing not to exercise to burn off the calories makes you fat.
Weed doesn’t make you lazy…smoking and then choosing to do nothing even though you have work to do makes you lazy…and if you can’t be productive after smoking, then just smoke after you get all your shit done. It’s not a very hard concept.
Das EFX - 40 & A Blunt
I’m a very big fan of Das EFX. They’ve had an extremely long and versatile career. Their style and subject matter are always changing, which keeps them from becoming a one-dimensional group…even though they’ve been in the rap game since 1988. Apparently they’re working on a new album, but it’s not official at this point. 40 & A Blunt is my favorite song off of their 1995 album Hold It Down. It’s one of my all time favorite song’s to drink 40s and smoke blunts to…for obvious reasons. It’s a true 90’s hip-hop classic.
