Blackalicious - Make You Feel That Way (Tor & Sufjan Stevens remix)

Just prepare yourself, because this is one hell of a remix. I like this version a lot more than the original, which is really saying something since the original is already outstanding. Gift of Gab’s mellow flow melds with the acoustic instrumental flawlessly. This is my favorite song off of Tor & Sufjan Stevens remix mixtape Illinoize. It’s a must download.

QuestionYou had posted a MF Doom song a while back, the beat was incredible, it almost sounded like the sample for the beat was being played backward, I tried searching for it but I couldn't find it, do you know what song Im talking about? I think it was a remix. Anwser

Yes, I know exactly what song you’re talking about.  It’s titled Great Day, and you’re correct, Four Tet utilizes reversed samples. It’s an exceptionally unique and enjoyable instrumental, and my overall favorite MF DOOM remix. The original version of the song is off of his classic album Madvillainy. The original is good, but Four Tet’s remix is a classic in my book.

Radiohead - Weird Fishez (Amp Live Remix)

Radiohead is rarely done justice when their music is remixed; however, Amp Llive (the producer/dj for Zion I) successfully put together a remix that I enjoy more than the original. This is off of Amp Live’s remix mixtape Rainydayz Remixes.  I would provide a download link for Rainydayz Remixes, since it used to be a free download on Amp Live’s website, but Radiohead’s label made him remove it for legal reasons.  I know for a fact it still exists on the web, so all you need to do is a search for it if you want it.  My favorite song off of Rainydayz Remixes is Video Tapez (ft. Del the Funky Homosapien), and my overall favorite remix by Amp Live is The Submarines – 1940 (Amp Live remix).

Tupac - Me Against The World (Big Z Remixes Remix)

Big Z Remixes is one of the most consistent remixers I know. His works are better than 95% of all other remixes I’ve come across throughout the years. This is one of my favorites by him. Me Against The World is a profound Tupac song with inherently desperate lyrics which beautifully portray the the daily emotional and physical struggles of the street thug life. The original song’s overall feel is fundamentally redefined with a more optimistic perception by infusing the song with a more modern and upbeat sounding instrumental. It manages this while also maintaining the uncut intensity of Tupac’s flow.

I used to listen to this religiously while I was going through a lot of shit last year. This song provides the perception that regardless of how fucked up your life gets, you can make it through. Tupac did..and he had a hell of a lot more problems then any of us. The original version is a classic, but I like this remix even more. This is off of Big Z Remixes’s remix mixtape Never Change.

Here are the download links for all of his remix mixtapes:  Never Change, Slow Down, Tell It Like It Is, Big Z Remixes (Self-titled)

Joell Ortiz - Night Train (Remix) (ft. Novel, Bun B, & Tech N9ne)

I really enjoyed Joell Ortiz’s last album Free Agent, but none of the songs on it truly blew my mind; however, this remix of Night Train which he released a few months later immediately left my cranium in pieces due to it’s overwhelming awesomeness.  The big name features, the laid back flow, the intelligent lyrics, the soulful chorus, and its overall vibe make this beautiful song essentially perfect  in every way…and some how it still manages to remain extremely low-key.

On my 30 Best Hip-Hop Songs of 2011 list I rated this the 2nd best song of the year.

Ludacris - I Came As A Slap (Modest Mouse/Robotic Pirate Monkey Mashup)

I just finished this a few minutes ago.  I mixed “Slap” by Ludacris with Robotic Pirate Monkey’s remix of “I Came as a Rat” by Modest Mouse.  I really like how it turned out. It has a completely different emotional feel than the original, in a good way of course.
