The Best of Underground Hip-Hop

It’s possible and available to any artist to be himself or herself on their own terms, to be accepted and embraced.  You don’t have to be a thug to get love.”

Vinnie Paz - Cheesesteaks

I was wondering when Vinnie Paz was going to release another song that’s so raw…it makes the meat in the freezer look well done. Honestly, people who think rappers like Rick Ross and Waka Flocka are the “rawest” don’t know shit. There’s a whole genre of aggressively raw hip-hop, and Vinnie Paz is definitely one of the rappers at the top of the food chain. He rips fake rappers apart and eats them for breakfast. If you like this you should check out his outstanding 2010 solo debut album Season of the Assassin. My favorite song off of that album is Role Of Life, which is my overall favorite solo song by Vinnie Paz…but of course his work with Jedi Mind Tricks is a completely different story.

Cheesesteaks is Vinnie Paz’s new single from his 2nd solo album God Of The Serengeti, which is coming out in fall. I can’t wait!

G-Unit - Poppin’ Them Thangs

Regardless of what you currently think of 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and Young Buck, when they were G-Unit and on top of their game, they produced some of the best gangster rap of all time, and many people have forgotten this.  I’ve been bumping a lot of old G-Unit in my car lately. Smoking to songs like Poppin’ Them Thangs with the bass cranked up reminded me that gangster rap doesn’t have to consistently disappoint (Waka Flacka).  Like many super groups, they started off strong, but they eventually lost their rhythem and started releasing only subpar music.  This is from their amazing 2003 album Beg For Mercy.
