My name's Jake Bourey, and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days.
“Only in America could you find a way to make a healthy buck, and still keep your attitude on self-destruct.”
- MF Doom
“And it ain’t no dental. Only the innate way to groove seem to paint your mental. Usin’ the insane flow stencil.”
- MF DOOM
Madvillain - Rhinestone Cowboy
MF DOOM - Hoe Cakes (Jake One Remix)
Start with The Mouse and the Mask and Madvillainy. They’re my favorite albums by him, and represent some of the best hip-hop of all time. I have both of them on vinyl, and if you notice I’m holding The Mouse and the Mask in my blog’s logo. The album was produced by Danger Mouse, and he’s unarguably one of the greatest producers of all time.
“Dropping that ass like bad demos. I’m pulling all the cuties with no problemo. That’s right cause I’m a gamer. Your girl left you for me, Lord Quas, I don’t blame her.”
“DOOM, all capitals, no trick spellin’. Got what it take to get it through your thick melon.”
- MF DOOM
Any woman sporting a Quasimoto tattoo is automatically much cooler than you and all your friends. So just keep that in mind.
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
After you who’s last? It’s DOOM, he’s the worst known.”
- MF DOOM
Yes, I know exactly what song you’re talking about. It’s titled Great Day, and you’re correct, Four Tet utilizes reversed samples. It’s an exceptionally unique and enjoyable instrumental, and my overall favorite MF DOOM remix. The original version of the song is off of his classic album Madvillainy. The original is good, but Four Tet’s remix is a classic in my book.
