Madvillain - All Caps (Instrumental)

I don’t normally post instrumentals, but Madlib’s works tend to be much more than just eight note loops of standardness. The artistic intricacy he consistently works into his gorgeously outlandish beats allows him to hang out at the legends table with Dilla, Premier, Kno, Nujabes…and the many others. I love to freestyle over this whenever a session goes down. It’s a classic instrumental off of a timeless album.

"Just remember ALL CAPS when you spell the man’s name."

QuestionYou had posted a MF Doom song a while back, the beat was incredible, it almost sounded like the sample for the beat was being played backward, I tried searching for it but I couldn't find it, do you know what song Im talking about? I think it was a remix. Anwser

Yes, I know exactly what song you’re talking about.  It’s titled Great Day, and you’re correct, Four Tet utilizes reversed samples. It’s an exceptionally unique and enjoyable instrumental, and my overall favorite MF DOOM remix. The original version of the song is off of his classic album Madvillainy. The original is good, but Four Tet’s remix is a classic in my book.

Madvillain – Great Day (Four Tet Remix)

"No matter what I do, I’m labeled as a bad character.”

- Quasimoto

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone
After you who’s last, it’s DOOM, he’s the worst known”

Rap mastermind MF DOOM used to run the game in graffiti too. Here he comes out of a 10-year retirement to light up a dark London evening with his spray cans.

QuestionHey man I appreciate your blog. It allows for me to know bout hip-hop i didn't know about haha but keep it up the insight and knowledge is great. Ive actually been wanting to finally get into MF Doom...good starting point? Anwser

My two favorite albums by him are Madvillainy and The Mouse and the Mask (what I’m holding in Hip-Hop Fights Back’s logo picture). I’ve also posted a some of my favorite MF DOOM songs. I listed them below if you want to check them out.

Gorillaz – November Has Come (ft. MF DOOM)

Danger Doom – Mince Meat

Madvillain – Strange Ways

Gorillaz - November Has Come (ft. MF DOOM)

This is my favorite MF DOOM song, which is saying a lot since he has multiple masterpieces which I deem a perfect 10 out of 10, such as Mince Meat and Strange Ways. I loved this song even before I knew who MF DOOM was, and I listened to it pretty religiously. I even took the time to memorize all of the lyrics the first day I started listening to it, which I’ve never done with any other song.  Everything about November Has Come is fucking perfect.  It’s off of my favorite Gorillaz album Demon Days. November Has Come is going to be included on my “Top 25 Favorite Songs of All Time” list, which I’ll be posting as soon as I post every song on it first. Only a few more to go.

Madvillain - Great Day (Four Tet Remix)

I definitely like Four Tet’s version more than the original.  The unique instrumental seems to produce a spacy aura which gives MF DOOM’s lyrics a more profound philosophical feel.  I also love the instrumental’s “backwards” demeanor.  This is a true classic in the realm of abstract hip-hop, and one of my favorite MF DOOM songs.  You definitely enjoy this song a lot more if you’re in the right mind set, if you know what I mean.  I also just got Madvillainy on vinyl…pretty happy about it.

"Couldn’t find a pen had to think of a new trick
This one he wrote in cold blood with a toothpick”

Madvillain - Rhinestone Cowboy

Rhinestone Cowboy is off of MF DOOM’s classic 2005 album Madvillainy. I feel my 2 favorite quotes from this song sum it up pretty well:

You’re blind in the wine zone. Leave ya mind blown when he shine with the 9. He’s a rhinestone…cowboy.

Certainly smashing in a fashion that’s timely. Madvillain dash in a beat rhyme crime spree. Who rock the house like rock and roll. Got more soul than a sock with a hole.”
