My name's Jake Bourey, and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days.
Passalacqua - Been A Minute
The hip-hop duo Passalacqua is officially the third winner of Hip-Hop Fights Back’s weekly follower created music competition. Click on the link if you’re not up to date with this new ongoing series.
Passalacqua consists of Detroit-based MC’s Mister and Blaksmith. They have a great dynamic with their differing styles, and consistently create hip-hop that is exceptionally unique, especially in this day and age where countless mundane cookie cutter rappers overpopulate the music scene. Really though, all of their music is great. These guys have some real talent, and I hope to see them eventually acquire the kind of recognition they truly deserve. Additionally, the music video for Been A Minute is phenomenal and very well put together. It definitely needs more views than it currently has. You can also download this song for free off of their soundcloud or bandcamp.
When asked about what hip-hop means to them on a personal level, Mister explained “Hip-Hop means individuality, community, a truer sense of self, refuge…it means everything. Hip-Hop has always been transcendent throughout the course of my life. Overall, I just continue to move forward, which the ignorant and the wack have a tough time doing.”
