My name's Jake Bourey, and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days.
Rapsody - When I Have You (ft. Nomsa Mazwai)
When it comes to females in hip-hop, Rapsody is one of my favorites (in my top 3). This is by far her best release yet, and one of my new favorite albums by a female hip-hop artist. Young women need a positive and intelligent role-model like Rapsody to look up to in the hip-hop world, but unfortunately Nicki Minaj has become countless young women’s role-model simply because she’s the most popular. When people say, “Nicki Minaj actually has some deep songs”, just slap them in the face and tell them to shut the fuck up and listen to Rapsody’s new outstanding album The Idea of Beautiful. The profound emotion and personal story telling she illustrates in the song When I Have You contains 10,000X more meaning then Nicki Minaj’s whole discography put together. This is my favorite song off of the album.
