My name's Jake Bourey, and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days.
I do a lot of searching, and even more listening. For close to a year I used to make it a point to listen to at least 2 new hip-hop albums a day, but as you can imagine that’s some what hard to keep up indefinitely.
I have ton of friends who recommend new artists all the time, and fortunately most of my friends are pretty music savvy. About a fourth of all the music I listen to is indie rock, but I don’t really ever check indie rock blogs. I have friends who only listen to indie rock, and they check those kinds of indie blogs almost daily. One of my friends in particular has great taste in indie rock and always tells me about someone new he’s discovered that’s worth looking into.
I’ve posted some of my favorite indie songs already.
Lana Del Rey – Pawn Shop Blues
Bon Iver – Skinny Love (Das Kapital Remix)
Modest Mouse – The World At Large
The Wooden Sky – Child of the Valley
LCD Soundsystem – Tribulations
The Submarines – Sub Symphonika
Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues
jj – Things Will Never Be The Same Again
Coconut Records – It’s Not You It’s Me
