The Best of Underground Hip-Hop

My name's Jake Bourey, and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days.

The overall goal of this blog is to educate the general public by exposing them to outstanding hip-hop songs and artists that they might have otherwise never known about. Many people don't realize the hip-hop universe is filled with countless beautiful gems that sadly remain completely hidden deep underground, buried by the overwhelmingly fake, watered down, and soulless music of the mainstream radio and music industry. “There's a war going on outside no man is safe from”, so do your part and help real hip-hop fight back against this overly popularized wackness and sellout mentality. This song is fucking amazing…and regardless of how you feel about Odd Future and Earl Sweatshirt, good music is good music. I acknowledge the fact that much of Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt’s music isn’t all that great, but they have unarguably created a few really solid hip-hop gems. The first time I ever saw the music video for Earl it had about 50,000 views, and all I could think was “holy shit, this song is ridiculously badass and definitely deserves a lot more attention”. Well I got my wish…and a hell of a lot more. It’s gotten to the point where much of Odd Future’s music is grossly overrated by their fans, and this turns off a lot of people to their music in general. I will not defend Odd Future as a whole, but I will happily defend any song that represents the epitome of it’s hip-hop genre, such as Earl, Yonkers, and Luper.

I also deem this the best hip-hop song of all time to have been made by a 16 year old. I’ve never heard anything else that comes close.
