My name's Jake Bourey, and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days.
Matisyahu - King Without A Crown
When I first heard this song way back in Jr. High, I was instantly hooked. It’s a true classic. Matisyahu’s style is a lot more indie/reggae than it is hip-hop, but many of his songs have a strong hip-hop influence, such as King Without A Crown. This combination of genres makes his works exceptionally unique in the realm of alternative hip-hop.
He re-recorded a sped up version of King Without A Crown in 2005, which is actually really good in itself, but the original 5 minute 20 second version is definitely my favorite of the two. This is off of his solid 2004 album Shake Off the Dust… Arise.
