My name's Jake Bourey, and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days.
Tyler, The Creator - Yonkers
I’ve been meaning to post this for a while. Yes, it’s true, Tyler is a punk who probably deserves to get his ass kicked, but he’s also EXTREMELY creative and created one of the grittiest/darkest/rawest pieces of music ever made. This is the epitome hip-hop’s darker side, no argument. I also acknowledge the fact that much of Odd Future’s music is fairly average in nature, but they have their fair share of gems…and many people who simply write them off overlook this fact.
I rated this the best song of 2011 for my 30 Best Hip-Hop Songs of 2011 list, and I’m also putting it at #9 for my 25 Favorite Songs Of All Time list, which I’ll be posting in the near future once I post every song on it first.
