Shome - At The Bar
At The Bar is my favorite song off of Shome’s mixtape Habitat For Humanity. It’s short but sweet. If you’ve never heard of Shome (I assume most of you haven’t), he’s an up and coming New Orleanian artist with a very unique sound. At the moment he’s extremely low-key…pretty much underground to the max. Although, if he starts making songs this good on a consistent basis, you’ll be definitely be hearing a lot more about this guy.

Honestly I had a decent amount of respect for him when he was first starting out. First of all he has a few songs that are really great, such as “Nikes On My Feet” and “Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza”, no argument. 2nd, I randomly found out one of my really good friends is best friend’s with Mac Miller’s older brother, and knew Malcolm when he was growing up (he has some humorous stories about the lil jew). Third, one of my other friend’s brothers who I buy copious amounts of weed from whenever I drive down to Pittsburgh (I only live a couple hours away) is also Mac Miller’s main dealer and long time smoking buddy. I’m still trying to see if I can’t randomly smoke with Mac Miller a few times. It’s still a work in progress…
Regardless, I’m very disappointed in the direction his music has gone. The fame has gotten to his head and work ethic, and he’s no longer as passionate about making solid hip-hop as he used to be. It’s a real shame. I had high hopes for him…and then against all odds he went pretty mainstream, which is typically a death sentence for true audio art.
One Be Lo – Pigs (ft. Mike Posner)
Each year there are plenty of “Fuck Tha Police” songs, but only a select few are as outstanding as this gem. Definitely the best song off of One Be Lo’s very slept on 2011 album Labor. Best part about this song is it’s all true…fuck the pigs.
This is on my “30 Best Hip-Hop Songs of 2011” and I rated it the 30th best song of the year.

Funkdoobiest - Wopbabalubop (Feat. B-Real) (Soul Assassins Remix)
From their 1993 album Which Doobie U B?. This is easily on of my favorite early 90’s hip-hop songs. Unfortunately it’s extremely low key, and sadly it isn’t even on itunes.

Gang Starr - Lovesick (Upbeat Mix)
Even after all this time I still can’t get over the sad truth that their will never be any more songs like this from Guru…

I absolutely LOVE indie rock. As I found, I appreciate lyricism more than most people, especially poetic rhymes, and this is found mostly in two genres: hip-hop and indie rock.
My all time favorite band is Modest Mouse, and I love them more than any other music artist…well Masta Ace comes in such a close second they might as well be tied.
My Other Favorite Music Artists:
Coconut Records (Davy is in my top ten favorite albums of all time)
Sea Wolf (The most underrated ever!)
Lily Allen (She has one of the best voices of all time)
JJ
Bon Iver
The Beatles (no one dislikes The Beatles)
The Arcade Fire
The White Stripes
Fleet Foxes
Andrew Bird
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros
Feist
Grizzly Bear
Cat Stevens
Johnny Cash
Radiohead
The Submarines
“I don’t give a fuck, like a Snorlax that just smoked a 1,000 blunts. ” - Hip-Hop Fights Back
Blue Scholars - Motion & Movement
Four summers ago this was one of those songs I had on repeat everyday while I was working at my first job. It helped pass the time…kept my mind right.

“Loneliness has followed me my entire life. No matter where I go, there is no escape. I will die lonely, I will die by myself. No one knows death except the dead, no one knows me except for myself. My solitude is encased within an ‘unknown’ aura…it maintains our disconnection, and will forever keep us separate entities within this vast universe of darkness.”
- Jake Bourey (aka Hip-Hop Fights Back)
Homeboy Sandman - Calm Tornado
I had this as my ringtone for months and months. It depresses me that most people don’t appreciate this kind of music. When it comes to abstract hip-hop, this song represents the pinnacle of its genre. An unsung classic.

Eternia - Nowhere No More (ft. Torae & Ms. Davis) (Prod. by 9th Wonder)
Eternia is one of the many unsung women of hip-hop. She’s smart as hell and definitely reps Canada to the fullest. If you’ve never heard of her before I suggest you give this a listen.

Lil’ Flip - This Is The Way We Ball
To be honest, I don’t really like most of the music Lil’ Flip makes; however, this is one of those rare exceptions. This Is The Way We Ball is legitimately a really enjoyable song. He perfectly taps into that laid back southern baller feel…a very difficult musical feel to get just right.

Because it’s been almost a year since she first released Gucci Gucci, which is her only good song (very overrated though). Which means she hasen’t released ANY good music for close to a year, plus her only mixtape is a huge piece of dog shit. I tried giving her a chance last summer and listened to all the music she had out, but all she did was really disappoint me. V-Nasty is equally as shitty. If you don’t believe me just try listening to her on her Gucci Mane colab album. *barf*
Some, but I’m selective about it. A lot of nerdcore is somewhat halfassed, if you know what I mean, but there are some songs that are ridiculously good. I posted one I really love awhile back. It’s my favorite video game song. Random - Splash Woman.
